Aggressively Fighting For Your Rights

PROTECTING YOUR RIGHTS AFTER A BURN INJURY

DEALING WITH THE AFTERMATH OF A BURN INJURY

One of the most debilitating and painful injuries you can suffer involves any type of burn…chemical, electrical or fire (or thermal) burns. In addition to permanent scarring and disfigurement, you can suffer nerve damage, loss of flexibility or mobility, loss of limb, depression and other emotional trauma. In addition to the pain and discomfort, you may need multiple surgeries, as well as extensive physical therapy, to move back toward some semblance of a normal life.

If you or someone you love has suffered burns in an accident caused by someone else’s carelessness or negligence, the experienced lawyers at the Law Offices of Mallon & Tranger can help. For a free initial consultation, call us at 732-780-0230 or send us an e-mail.

THE CAUSES OF BURN INJURIES

More often than not, burn injuries result from some other type of accident, rather than from an exposure to a fire. You may suffer burns in a motor vehicle accident, because of the malfunction of a dangerous or defective product (such as a water heater), or because of exposure to live electrical current.

TREATMENT OF BURN INJURIES

The first step in the treatment of a burn injury is the removal of burnt or damaged skin tissue. If the burn is not to severe, the removal of damaged tissue will facilitate healing and allow skin tissue to regenerate (though it may be of a different texture, resulting in a scar). If your skin tissue has been severely damaged, and cannot regrow on its own, you may require a skin graft, where a surgeon takes skin from a healthy part of your body and attaches it to the area where tissue was damaged, with the hope that it will grow in that new location. The grafted skin may grow at a different rate from the skin around it, leading to stiffness or to difficulties in stretching or manipulating certain body part (such as fingers or toes).
